HTC Sense Arrives on HTC Magic

|

Taiwanese handset vendor HTC announced a while ago that it planned on bringing the HTC Sense solution on all of its Android-based devices, as well as on the Windows Mobile-powered ones, and now we learn that the company has just released the technology for HTC Magic. The update comes in the form of ROM Version: 3.03.990.6 and should enable Magic users benefit from a leverage experience on their devices, that's for sure.

Here's what HTC says in the “improved functions” section on the software's download page: “This ROM Upgrade for your HTC Magic will let you experience HTC Sense on your phone. HTC Sense lets you create a phone just right for you. You can customize your experience to be any way you like. Discover intuitive experiences that make everything you do on your phone effortless and delightful.”
As many of you might already know, HTC Sense, which first debuted on HTC Hero several months ago, is HTC's approach towards the mobile phone experience its users will receive. Sense comes as a “people centric” solution, as it puts users in the center of the communication process. The technology, HTC says, is based on three principles, Make it Mine, Stay Close, and Discover the Unexpected.

The new ROM can be used for update by those who own a Windows-based computer, and it supports the Windows XP and Windows Vista versions of Microsoft's platform. Users will need to firstly install HTC Sync (which has been also updated not too long ago), connect the phone to the PC, disable the standby and hibernation modes on the computer, “make sure that the battery level of the phone is at least 30%,” and only then launch the process and follow the instructions on the screen.

“There are two steps for the RUU,” HTC notes.
- First step will upgrade three programs (At the end of this step the screen will show “Boot-Fail” about 5 seconds, and this is the normal scenario, please let the Magic keep running to second step.)
- Second Step will continue updating 5 programs, and it will spend around 10 minutes for the whole upgrade process, please be patient for the upgrade.

HTC also warns users that this is only a generic update for the Magic and that any settings delivered by carriers will be lost. One should also note that the upgrade will erase all data on the phone and users need to make sure that all the files on the handset have been backed up before proceeding with the upgrade, so as not to lose important information. The update should take only 10 minutes, yet the process needs not be interrupted.

The download page for the new ROM Version: 3.03.990.6 for HTC Magic is available here.
